How Impact Ratings Work
Every CMS/CMMI update on ValuesEdge includes an impact analysis to help you quickly assess its significance.
Impact Rating Scale
Updates are rated on a three-tier scale:
- 🔴 High Impact — Significant changes that likely require action. Examples: new rule finalizations, major policy shifts, program restructuring.
- 🟡 Medium Impact — Notable developments worth monitoring. Examples: proposed rules, guidance updates, data releases.
- 🟢 Low Impact — Informational updates with limited immediate impact. Examples: technical corrections, minor clarifications, routine publications.
What Goes Into the Rating
Our impact assessment considers:
- Scope — How many organizations and patients are affected?
- Urgency — Is immediate action required, or is this forward-looking?
- Financial Impact — Does this change reimbursement, benchmarks, or risk calculations?
- Operational Impact — Does this require changes to workflows, reporting, or staffing?
- Strategic Impact — Does this shift the direction of a model or the broader VBC landscape?
Filtering by Impact
On the CMS/CMMI Updates page, use the impact filter to show only High, Medium, or Low impact updates. This is especially useful when you're short on time and need to focus on what matters most.
